Tariff guides
Octopus Energy tariffs explained
Octopus has more tariff options than any other UK supplier. That's great if you know what you're looking for, but it can be overwhelming if you don't. Here's every tariff broken down in plain English, with honest takes on who each one actually suits.
Flexible Octopus
The standard tariff. A single flat rate for electricity and gas, priced below the Ofgem cap. No smart meter needed. This is what most new customers start on.
Best for: Most households
Agile Octopus
Half-hourly pricing linked to wholesale electricity costs. Prices change every 30 minutes, published a day ahead. Can be incredibly cheap overnight, but pricey during the 4-7pm peak.
Best for: Tech-savvy households with smart meters
Octopus Go
A simple two-rate tariff with super cheap electricity overnight (00:30-05:30). Designed for EV owners who charge at home, but works for anyone who can shift usage to the early hours.
Best for: EV owners with home chargers
Intelligent Octopus Go
Like regular Go, but smarter. Octopus controls when your car charges (within your set window) to use the cheapest electricity. The off-peak window is longer too: 23:30-05:30.
Best for: EV owners with compatible chargers
Octopus Tracker
Your unit rate follows the wholesale price, updated daily. When wholesale prices drop, you pay less the very next day. No lock-in, no exit fees.
Best for: People who want transparency
Cosy Octopus
A three-rate tariff built for homes with heat pumps. Cheap electricity during three off-peak windows (04:00-07:00, 13:00-16:00 and 22:00-00:00) when you can pre-heat your home.
Best for: Heat pump owners
Octopus Flux
For homes with solar panels and a battery. Import cheap overnight, use solar during the day, export at premium rates during peak hours. Some customers actually make money.
Best for: Solar + battery owners
