Compatible chargers for Intelligent Go
Intelligent Go is one of the cheapest ways to charge an EV at home, but its headline feature only works if your charger can talk to Octopus’s systems. The smart scheduling that finds you the cheapest overnight slots (and the bonus off-peak slots during the day) requires a compatible charger or a supported vehicle with direct integration.
If you pick the wrong charger, you’ll still get the standard cheap overnight window. You just won’t get the clever stuff on top.
Why compatibility matters
On Intelligent Go, you tell Octopus what time you need the car ready and how much charge you want. Their systems then figure out the cheapest combination of time slots to hit that target. Sometimes the grid has excess capacity at odd hours, so Octopus offers “bonus slots” at the off-peak rate during what would normally be expensive periods.
For this to work, your charger needs to accept instructions from Octopus. It connects to your WiFi, communicates with Octopus’s platform, and turns on or off as directed. Without that communication link, the charger has no way of knowing when to start or stop.
Chargers with full Intelligent Go integration
Ohme Home Pro: The most popular choice among Intelligent Go customers, and for good reason. Ohme was designed from the ground up to work with Octopus’s smart tariffs. Setup takes about five minutes through the Ohme app, and it handles everything automatically once connected. Reliable, well-supported, reasonably priced.
Ohme ePod: Ohme’s budget option. Same smart integration as the Home Pro but in a simpler package without the built-in display. Does exactly the same job for less money if you don’t mind checking everything through the app.
Zappi (myenergi): The Zappi now has full Intelligent Go integration, which is great news for the many owners who originally bought it for its solar diversion features. Octopus controls charging by calling the Zappi’s API to create half-hour boost slots matched to the cheapest periods. You get full smart scheduling and bonus slots, just like the Ohme chargers. The Zappi works with both charger-based and vehicle-based integration approaches.
Hypervolt Home 3 Pro: A solid British-made alternative with a clean design and strong build quality. The Octopus integration works well, though some users report it took a couple of firmware updates before everything ran smoothly. Good customer support.
Indra Smart PRO and Smart Lux: Less well-known than Ohme or Hypervolt, but fully capable smart chargers with Octopus integration. One notable feature is the solar diversion mode, which can prioritise charging from your solar panels before pulling from the grid.
Wallbox Pulsar Plus and Pulsar Max: Compact, well-designed chargers that support Octopus integration. You’ll need to link your Wallbox account through the Octopus app. The setup process is slightly less straightforward than Ohme’s, but once connected both models work well.
Andersen (Quartz, A3 and A2): A newer addition to the compatibility list. All Andersen Quartz models, all A3 models and single-phase A2 models sold since January 2024 support Intelligent Go integration.
Simpson and Partners Home Series: Another recent addition. The Generation 2 and 3 Home Series chargers integrate with Intelligent Go, with no compatible car required.
VCHRGD Seven and Seven Pro: Sleek, compact smart chargers available in tethered and untethered versions, with full Intelligent Go integration.
Direct vehicle integration
Some EVs can bypass the charger entirely and communicate with Octopus through the vehicle’s own connectivity. This means any charger will work for smart scheduling, because Octopus controls the car rather than the charger.
Vehicles with direct Intelligent Go integration include:
- Tesla (all models with the Tesla app connected to Octopus)
- Volkswagen Group models (VW, Audi, Skoda, Cupra, Seat and Porsche with compatible software versions)
- BMW and MINI (via BMW Connected Drive)
- Ford (selected models)
- Nissan (selected models)
Octopus claims compatibility with over 280 vehicles from major EV brands, and the list grows regularly. Always check the compatibility tool on the Octopus website for the latest supported models, as specific year and trim combinations can vary.
If your car has direct integration, the charger becomes a “dumb pipe” that just supplies power. The vehicle itself decides when to draw from the grid.
What if your charger isn’t compatible?
You can still use Intelligent Go with any charger. You’ll get the guaranteed cheap overnight rate (currently 23:30 to 05:30), and you can schedule your charger manually to only run during those hours. Most smart chargers have their own scheduling features, even without Octopus integration.
What you’ll miss out on is the automatic scheduling and the bonus off-peak slots that appear at random times during the day. Worth noting: from January 2026, Octopus enforces a 6-hour daily limit on smart charging at the discounted rate. Any charging beyond those 6 hours is billed at the standard day rate. For most drivers doing typical daily mileage, 6 hours is more than enough. The bonus slots can still add up to meaningful savings over a year, so it’s worth getting a compatible charger if you can. You can see the difference in our EV charging calculator.
Which charger should you buy?
For most people going on Intelligent Go, the Ohme Home Pro is the obvious choice. It has the deepest Octopus integration, the setup is painless, and it’s priced competitively. The Ohme ePod is a good budget alternative if you want to save a bit on the hardware.
If you already have solar panels and want to maximise self-consumption, the Zappi or Indra Smart PRO are worth a look for their solar diversion features. For anyone who already owns a Tesla or compatible VW/BMW/Ford/Nissan, the direct vehicle integration means the charger choice doesn’t matter much.
Before buying, always double-check the current compatibility list on Octopus’s website. New chargers and vehicles get added regularly, and occasionally integrations change after firmware updates.
